Swedes Return to Hollyburn Lodge
July 31st, 2013

On Wednesday, July 31st, 2013, HHS took four Swedish visitors, Kerstin Ericson, Rolf Ericson, Lars Sjöberg & Anna-Lena Sjöberg, on a tour of Hollyburn Lodge and the area around First Lake. Kerstin Ericson's great-aunt & uncle were Stina & Andrew Irving, who owned and operated the Hollyburn Ski Camp from 1927 to 1946 along with Oscar Pearson & Ole Anderson. (Stina didn't arrive until 1937, after she and Andrew were married in Sweden.) During the tour, Lars Sjöberg took many beautiful photographs, 48 of which are displayed in this album. It is interesting to get Lars' perspective of the tour, to see what caught his eye, as it was his first trip to Hollyburn Ridge.

Reference to the visit was made in the Vancouver Sun article, “A Place to play, A place of their own”, written by Tiffany Crawford and
published on Saturday, August 3rd.

“Aside from the cabin owners, there’s another voice calling for the special camp (Hollyburn Ski Camp) to be preserved – Kerstin Ericson, the great grandniece of early Hollyburners Andrew and Stina Iriving. Ericson, 50, wanted to get a sense of what life was like for her grandmother's sister back in the 1920's, leaving her small town in Sweden to hike up and live on a Canadian mountain. So she and her husband travelled to Vancouver this week from their home in Sweden to visit Hollyburn. "It is so fantastic," she said after a tour of Hollyburn. "I am so proud of my grandmother's sister. I would like to travel back in time and be with her there. I am so glad the people here want to take care of it for the future."
